Deadline to mail it is Wednesday and hand delivered Saturday morning. Wind slowed activity for a few days last week but look for slowly improving success. Work west of the resort in 8 to 15 or 20 to 22 feet using crankbaits or live bait presentations with leeches or nightcrawlers. Some nice 3- to 4-poounds walleye are coming from the Deepwater area. The wind cooled bays down so try locating warmer water. The east end of Lake Sakakawea remains fair to good for walleye using live bait rigs or spinners with nightcrawlers or spinners. Work main lake points in 18 to 30 feet. Overall, though, there are fewer anglers on the water. Lake Sakakawea is fair but inconsistent for walleye on the east end.

Save A multi-well oil pad above one of the busiest boat ramps on Lake Sakakawea is under extended review by federal land managers and already has been approved by the State Oil and Gas Division. The pad for the rig platform, frack staging and well bores will be 1, feet from the Van Hook Resort boat ramp parking lot, part of a popular camping and recreation complex near New Town. Eric Sundberg, company environmental and regulatory manager, said its application has been in the works for almost four years and drilling could start next season, pending a final decision by the Bureau of Land Management.
Sundberg said the storage tanks, flare pit and heater treater will be set back at least another half mile. A pipeline will transport the raw oil and brine to the production location. The pad was originally to be located only feet from the boat ramp area, but got pushed back to protect the endangered piping plover.

Anglers are finding steady walleye success by working deeper water in 25 to 35 feet. Walleye success slowed but anglers are still finding fish, just working longer at it. Look for somewhat improving walleye success around Garrison, Steinke, and Douglas bays, as well as the guard camp on Lake Sakakawea. Anglers are also finding continued fair success in Parshall Bay.

The largest natural lake, Devils Lake, has been slowly eating up the land around it as it has continued to grow for the past few decades. Roads that once went by it now go off into nothing but water, and some towns are beginning to shrink as the shoreline gets closer. But as of yet, no town has been completely engulfed. One of these was a town called Van Hook. The Garrison Dam was completed in
Still a little slow in the Van Hook arm as it still needs to warm up a bit but I’m guessing by the end of the week it’ll be real good. The rest of the lake from The Four .
This spring, an oil company named Slawson Exploration moved in beside the resort, and with its huge machinery, began clearing a 25 acre site at the top of the boat ramp, which will be home to what now looks like an 8-well oil pad. The site is just a few hundred yards from the park and the homes in the community. These boys could give Donald Trump a lesson in how to put up a wall in a matter of days. When the wall comes down in a year or so, there will be an oil well complex as big as any in western North Dakota, right there beside the little town, at the top of one of the busiest boat ramps in North Dakota.
A steady stream of monster trucks will haul the waste water from the well, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I spent the night with friends there a couple weeks ago. The rig has since been moved to the new pad at the boat ramp and should be in operation any day now. Drilling at least eight wells, maybe as many as eleven. Whose fault is this? Well, as a friend of mine said recently, the North Dakota Industrial Commission will permit anything, anywhere.
Especially now, with oil in the doldrums. Eleven new wells is nothing to trifle with. Tax dollars and jobs. Never mind the fishermen and recreational boaters and their formerly quiet little community.

The fishing has been very good on Lake Sakakawea this fall. Not necessarily easy fishing but rewarding for those that work at it. We have been concentrating our efforts in the pouch bay area and west in 18 to 25 feet of water the last 2 weeks. The quality of the fish is incredible with limits of fish in the 18 to 22 inch range being the norm with a few catch and release fish in the mix.
I still believe the best is yet to come as water temps continue to go down. Jigs and minnows fished very slowly around points was best the last 2 weeks.

Okay, but some dangerous parts June, by scottieo19 I enjoy a good ride, but also am looking for a good place to train. I rode from the RT junction north for about 10 miles. The trail was much bumpier than I was used to. There is a clear knowledge of the state of the trail, the larger bumps and potholes are sprayed and there are signs warning of ‘uneven pavement’ but it was not super enjoyable to ride on at higher speeds.
My biggest concern is the RT section. There is about a 1 or 1.

July 23, 3 fish in as many minutes. I normally go to the lake with a plan in mind. Usually it is a combination of several factors. Weather, and in particular wind, shapes the end result. We had wind yesterday out of the west at 25 plus so the east shoreline had my attention. I even had it narrowed down to a flat a few miles south of Brendles Bay Resort. The season we are in is also a big part of the strategy. What was working this time last year? Location, depth, speed and even number of cranks lost.
