Those of us Christians living out in the secular world are also called to holiness — we just have more challenges to achieving it than do those living in religious life. Indeed, God desires our highest good. I do have to ask: If they are not able, does this imply that they are less able to attain holiness? It only makes the attainment of holiness more difficult. Sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic archdiocese of Dublin and Murphy Report In the Republic of Ireland, starting in the s, there were a series of criminal cases and government enquiries related to allegations that priests had abused hundreds of minors over previous decades. State-ordered investigations documented “tens of thousands of children from the s to the s” who suffered abuse, including sexual abuse at the hands of priests, nuns, and church staff in three dioceses.

Discernment is a time-honored practice in the Christian tradition. In essence, discernment is a decision-making process that honors the place of God’s will in our lives. It is an interior search that seeks to align our own will with the will of God in order to learn what God is calling us to.

Does it help God? Does it help us? Because the answers are Catholic! Suffering is a fact of life — it happens to both good and bad people. Nobody chooses to suffer by design — except masochists. But they do endure it. Because Catholicism offers the most beautiful and intellectually satisfying answer to human suffering found on earth.

It explains why we suffer — and, more importantly — how suffering can have meaning and value. Those without faith necessarily endure a sense of futility born of meaningless suffering. They blame God and shake their fists — which by itself, suggests a rather exquisite irony.

Based on the preparatory findings of the Synod, the Synod explored the vocation and mission of the family in the Church and in the contemporary world. At the Ordinary General Assembly, the bishops formulated pastoral guidelines to respond to those challenges.

It also explained what marriages and families are called to at this time in history. However, there is much that has been written on the and Synods, as well as Amoris Laetitia.

Dating and discernment

June 10, by Father Joseph Lopez, Contributor There are lots of charming Catholic women who want to get married to a good Catholic man. The problem is, when a man feels called to marriage, all these women go into hiding. But when a young man begins to discern a vocation to the priesthood, lots of wonderful Catholic women suddenly become available—and they would all love to date him! Many seminarians meet the woman of their dreams at a most inopportune time—like the summer before they begin seminary!

So what is a guy to do about dating and discernment? Here are some points to consider.

While being Catholic has been the greatest blessing in my relationship (and my life in general), the Catholic dating culture comes with its own counter cultural pressures, both hidden and overt. My director helped me realize I felt the need for discernment before dating, as if I needed to figure out if Joe were my future husband first, and then.

From Beginning to Pray authored by Dr. Anthony Lilles Pentecost is a Feast of Love. It is the feast of the Canticle of Canticles where the Bridegroom comes to kiss his Bride. Today the Church cries out to her Bridegroom for a divine kiss, a kiss from the mouth of God. It is this kiss entrusted to frail humanity that makes all the difference in the world and in our lives.

It is by this kiss that God discloses the depths of his love, that He surrenders His Holy Spirit to each of us in the most unique and particular way. It is the kiss God entrusts to humanity from the Cross. The Holy Spirit is the life of the soul. He is the great gift that the Risen Lord breaths into the world. When lovers kiss, it is as if they are trying to breath their spirits into each other.

Each wants the other to completely possess the gift of who they are. It is by way of a holy kiss that Christ breaths his Holy Spirit into the Church. The whole Church and each of us as members of this mystical Body, through this same Gift, want to give everything we have to Christ and find in ourselves the power to do so and the inner conviction that we do not want to have it any other way.
